POSSIBLE ACTIONS: 1) Wait for the system to advance by itself; 2) Use the SKIP button;

GPS Screen (0) is the one that comes right after the system initialization. It is a fairly simple screen showing current GPS data as well as a “SKIP” button.

Once the screen loads, it sends request to the GPS sensor and waits for its input. As with any non A-GPS device when in “cold start” it might take some time to find satellites and in my case I have been waiting ~60 sec. to receive first data from GPS sensor. The system beeps every 5-6 seconds while waiting for data.

After receiving first location data, the system waist for 15 more seconds (3 beeps) in order to improve Location data as much as possible.

When location data has been received and 15 seconds have passed the system considers the data as final and produces 2 short beep signals to acknowledge data is received. rDUINOScope advances to the next screen – Clock Screen(2)

The user could also use the “SKIP” button to discard the data from the GPS sensor and move forward with the “hard-coded” location values. Sometimes it is useful and spares time!

POSSIBLE ACTIONS: 1) Change Date and/or Time; 2) Confirm Date and Time;

The system have its own internal clock with battery, which means that it should be fairly accurate. From time to time however you might need to update the date, and/or time of the system. From this screen the system reads 4 important parameters: Current Date, Current Time, Time Offset (vs. GMT) and DAYLIGHT SAVING Mode. All those are needed to calculate stellar objects position and accurately point the telescope.

If NO changes are needed the user simply needs to hit “OK” button and rDUINOScope will advance to the next screen without changing current date and time. You can also toggle ON or OFF the “SUMMER” button, which is used to determine if DAYLIGHT SSAVING mode is ON or OFF.

In case you need to update date or time, use the keypad to override current values.

When you hit the first number on the keypad, the system understand that you are going to adjust date or time and replaces the string with a placeholder string like:

XX / XX / XXXX                    DD / MM / YYYY (require leading zeroes)
XX : XX                                  HH : MM (require leading zeroes)

And starts to replace symbols with actually pressed values (e.g. pressing: 1, 2, 0, 3 means 12 / 03 / XXXX) until it fills all 12 slots for date and time.

ERROR Entering Value: There is no way you go back and revise entered value. However after you enter the final 12th digit, the system jumps to the 1st placeholder, allowing you to override the entire date and time information.

NB: Try to synchronize the time up to a second! This means that you will have to add one more minute to the entered values and wait until the seconds become ”00” and hit “OK” button in the same time (e.g. On 14 / 03 / 2017 at 22:34 you input the following 14 / 03 / 2017 at 22:35 and hit “OK” button the same time when it became 22:35h)

Alignment is important for any computerized system having to deal with real world. It basically “aligns” the mathematical model calculated inside the system, with real world object position, thus allowing to calculate the error and compensate for it.

How to choose alignment method:
It is important to at least choose “1 Star Alignment” for your observations

For quick observation sessions, I advise you to use “1 Star” Alignment.

There are 203 brightest stars added to the database of rDUINOScope from both Northern and Southern hemispheres.

To align your telescope, choose a star near the object(s) you’d like to observe (e.g if you plan to observe M42, M35, M44 – Use Sirius or Betelgeuse for “1 Star” Alignment).

Please, note that the list of stars is ordered alphabetically by the Constellation Name (e.g. And, Aql, Aqr…. CMa,CMi,… Uma, Umi and etc.)

Once you select a star from the catalogue, the rDUINOScope will slew to that star and the Align Screen (13) will show. There will be instructions on the screen which you need to follow.

1) “SYNC !” button – Leeds you to the Main screen;
2) “Repeat” button – Gets you back to the “StarSync” Screen (12) and allows you to select a different star and repeat the process!
